Dr. George Tagaras

Professor George Tagaras is the Director of the Laboratory of Business Administration at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), where he has been serving as a faculty member since 1993.

Prof. Tagaras obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from A.U.Th. in 1982. He then moved for graduate studies to the Department of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management at Stanford University, where he obtained an M.S. in 1984 and a Ph.D. in 1986, both in Industrial Engineering. Before returning to A.U.Th. as a faculty member, Dr. Tagaras served as Lecturer of Decision Sciences at the Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania) and as Assistant Professor of Technology Management at INSEAD in France. He has also taught for many years at the University of Thessaly. During the academic year 2009 – 2010 he was Visiting Professor of Production Management at  TU Berlin.

Professor Tagaras’ main research interests fall in the area of Operations Management, focusing on production management, quality assurance and reverse logistics. He has published over 50 research articles in a variety of academic journals and books, and he has authored a book on Statistical Quality Control in Greek (2001). He has been on the editorial boards of several highly rated international journals, including Management ScienceOperations ResearchProduction and Operations Management. He has participated in many funded research projects, and he was in charge of the working group that completed the first Strategic Development Plan of A.U.Th. 2002-2010. Since 2018 he is a member of the Quality Assurance Unit of A.U.Th.
